Introduction

So I’ve been lately reviewing a lot of Beachbody products and while the Insanity and P90X were surprisingly good for their respective areas (although overpriced), unfortunately I cannot put Body Beast in the same line with them.

In this review I’m going to tell you my unbiased opinion of this popular program and is it really effective for building muscle.

I’ve taken a thorough look into different aspects of the program from the exercise selections, repetitions, weight used all the way to nutrition and rest.

I did this website in order to help people to build muscle and steer away from the fitness industries bad information that is just trying to take your money and not really caring about your personal progress and as this program is tailored for muscle building it is my passion to weigh in the pros and cons and find out how effective the program really is.

What Is Body Beast

Sagi Kalev Body Beast

The author of the program is a guy named Sagi Kalev. Sagi was born in Israel and moved to USA to pursue his dreams. He is a two-time Mr. Israel and world leading fitness model and bodybuilder.

So the first cringy thing about this whole Body Beast program is the author. Let me just share my opinion that I think he is using quite a good quality Whey proteins and creatine… I know both end of the spectrum of trainers, naturals and folks that use a lot of supplements so I’ve seen the in and outs of the business and got quite good sense of what is possible to achieve with and without heavy supplement usage.

In my opinion, the kind of physique and ridiculous amount of muscle mass Sagi has cannot be obtained by just eating and training right.

So this is the classic scheme what all the supplement industries use. Put a guy or girl with crazy good symmetry and huge amount of muscle while shredded to the bones and let him advertise your product to create that mental link that you can achieve the same with this product.

Although I have to say that I personally don’t give a damn if someone uses supplements or not, but this type of marketing that implies that you can achieve something that is really way out of reach, I do not like one bit.

How Long Body BeastΒ Lasts?

The body beast workout program lasts total 90 days. The whole program is designed to be done in the comfort of your own home or gym.

Most of the exercises are done with dumbbells and barbell.

There are 3 different “blocks” within the 90 days each consisting of 1 month. The first one is Build, 2nd one is called Bulk and the 3rd month is Beast.

Ok so this is supposed to be muscle building program and the last month is for dropping your body fat and getting ripped? What is this about?

First of all, muscle is build within years not a couple of months. Anyone who tells you that you can build a significant amount of mass in 3 months is lying to you. I’m sorry but this is the reality.

The biggest problem about this whole fitness industry is the fact that everyone tries to sell huge gains of muscle in a short time frame of a month or couple. Muscle growth takes long time to happen and if you expect to blow up in a month or two, prepare to get discouraged and disappointed.

Of course you will gain muscle within the first few months but it’s not a lot.

So if you’re looking to build muscle you HAVE TO get out of this fast results mind frame because it will not happen! Embrace the grind and understand that your desired body is somewhere 1-10 years ahead of you!

Does The Program Work?

It’s not good, but it’s not the worst either. The way the exercises and sets and reps are done could be improved. 99.99% of people who are considering to buy this Body Beast program are complete beginners. And beginners will not have to use all the special techniques that this product offers. Beginners should train with basic methods with linear progression using compound exercises.

That being said as a beginner you will grow muscle really fast (but still forget the 3 months BS!!) and you will grow it even with sub-par methods. This is because your body is not used to resistance training and it will adapt quite fast at the beginning of your journey.

Although at first the adaptations will be mostly neurology based and you’re getting stronger because your body learns to actually use and “command” your muscles to do the work.

But after a while you’ll start to induce the hypertrophy response as well and that is the time frame that everyone refers as “newbie gains” since you will grow muscle quite a rapid rate. The downside of this is that it doesn’t really last longer than 6-12 months.

So let’s look a bit in-depth why I don’t like the programming of this program…

The SECRET: Dynamic Set Training

Ok so, Body Beast claims that it has “cracked the code” or discovered the secret to building muscle. I really got a bit Body Beast Workout Reviewagitated with this kind of claim because let me tell you, THERE IS NO SECRET TO BUILDING MUSCLE!

The basic principles that have been around since the early days of bodybuilding and strength training are still the same! There is nothing magical that has been discovered in the modern times.

You can look the guys before steroids even were available that had great muscular physiques, way better developed than most guys using steroids today!

The “secret” is hard work and persistence over long period of time. There are no magic potions or powders or techniques, only hard work and dedication is what will yield you the results you’re looking for.

And there is nothing new or cutting-edge in these training methods body beast puts you through. The same techniques have been around for years already and are used by advanced lifters who have at least 4-6 years of serious training under their belt.

So the program has you doing:

  • Force Sets
  • Circuit Sets
  • Single Sets
  • Super Sets
  • Giant Sets
  • Drop Sets
  • Tempo Sets

These techniques are geared towards guys who have already built the foundation for muscle through years of grinding with basic compound exercises. These serve absolutely no purpose for beginner lifters. You will make a lot better progress with the basics of weight training as you’re beginner or intermediate lifter.

The foundation of building muscle without steroids lies in basic compound exercises using 70-80% loads from your one rep max. These special techniques have their place but only for advanced lifters!

This is 100% marketing trick to get you to spend your money on these sub-par training techniques that serve no purpose in your training!

Remember that as a beginner lifter you should pay attention to the BASICS!

What Training Split The Program Uses?

If you’ve never heard of “Splits” in weight training it basically body_beast_schedulemeans how many workouts you will divide your full body to.

1-day split means that you will train your whole body on one session, 2-day split means you will separate your body for example lower- and upper-body workout for two different days, 3-day would be on Monday you’ll do legs, Wednesday back and Friday chest, triceps, shoulders, etc.

Body Beast workouts are so called 5-day splits since they’ve divided the workouts within one week to Chest, Legs, Arms, Back and Shoulders.

I personally would recommend 1-day, 2-day or maximum 3-day split for any trainer. And the reason is that more frequency means more protein synthesis which means more muscle growth.

Although this can be argued that which one is the best and it will be a whole new article that is way too much to cover in here so I’ll leave it at that.

Sets & Reps Scheme In The Regimen

Every exercise in Body Beast uses the same “Dynamic Set Training” that is supposed to be somewhat superior to regular single sets.Body Beast Workout Review

There is basically 2 different set schemes. The first one is: You start out with 15 reps, put more weight then 12, put more weight then 8, then 8 again, back to 12 with lighter weight and last one 15 reps with lighter weight again. The second on is the same but you only do the 4 first sets of 15, 12, 8 and 8.

In a way this is a good advice but in the program it is not made clear enough that you should go close to failure with the 8 rep sets, infact I didn’t find any clear guidelines how much INTENSITY you should use with the exercises. Basically any successful workout program involves of warm-up sets and then heavy work sets.

Here the work sets are the 2 sets of 8 reps in the middle and you should put all your effort to these two sets. After that you could include a bit more metabolic fatigue with the higher range of 12 and 15 reps to spark a bit more hypertrophy. So with this you get total of 2-4 working sets depending how hard you will go and that is a good amount per one exercise.

But it would be superior in my opinion to do just 3-5 sets of 5-8 repetitions full effort sets. The reason is that you can really concentrate and put in the effort and focus on quality instead of quantity!

With the Body Beast you will do all the 6 sets of a given exercises in a row so you do not get any time to rest in-between the sets.

With this kind of training you will be missing out A LOT of your possible muscle growth since you’re not pushing yourself to the limit and recruiting the maximum potential of your muscle fibers.

Exercise Selection

The exercise selection in Body Beast is ok. Basically on every workout you will do the main lift like deadlift, squat or dumbbell press first and then a variety of assistance exercise after it. Although sometimes there are some prefatigue sets before the main compound which is again are not necessary for beginner lifters by any means!

This is actually quite well structured part of the program and I don’t have anything to add to that.

Equipment – What You’ll Need

As the program is tailored for folks that’ll workout from the comfort of their own home, you will need to add some equipment ontop of the program which will cost you quite a bit more money.

Of course there is a way to get around this since all of the workout regimens are on paper so you can just go to basic gyms and read and perform the workouts instead of watching the DVD and working along with it (which I think is definitely NOT the way to go if you’re serious about building muscle and strength).

What you basically need:

  • Dumbbells
  • Barbell
  • EZ Curl Bar
  • Weights
  • Adjustable Bench

If you’re really tight on a budget, adjustable dumbbells and some kind of flat bench might be enough to workout your whole body with the program.

Nutrition

The diet like all beach body products I’ve reviewed before is build upon figuring your BMR with Harris-Benedict body_beast_nutritionformula and then increasing your calories with daily surplus of about 500. This is good structure for bulking.

But then again a 3 month time frame for building muscle is way too short and the body beast program puts you off from the surplus for the last month in order to shed excess fat. Again I don’t understand this.

This is a muscle building program, not a fat loss program so why in the earth after 2 months you would be starting to “shed excess fat” for only 1 month?

I mean people usually stay on calorie surplus and build muscle for at least 9 months and everything up to 3-4 years and here you’re doing it for only 2 months. Makes definitely no sense to me why they’re doing this kind of stuff in the Body Beast.

The diet itself is really basic and you get ready made meal plans to go with your personal calorie intake amounts. Nothing really special but gives you a clear picture of what and how much you should eat.

Can Women Use Body Beast?

As people are all the time getting more and more educated about the positive benefits of lifting weights, women are starting to get into it which is a wonderful thing.

The common myths about weight training and women has been shattered that you’ll end up looking bulky and “manly” if you lift weights.

That is complete nonsense.

In my opinion there is nothing better than a women who has been lifting weights for a couple years. It gives their body that curvy and toned look that everyone, including men and women like.

So that being said women can absolutely train with body beast or any other weight training program. But in my opinion body beast emphasizes a bit too much on the upper body and with women I would like to see more lower body / core dominant program since most of the women prefer to get that nice butt and sculpted legs and don’t mind to pack so much mass in their upper body.

Is The Program A Scam?

When looking objectively at the program, I cannot say that it is a scam. But that being said, it’s not even near the best workout program for any lifter that is interested in building muscle and strength.

Even though I don’t like the program it certainly doesn’t mean it’s a flat out fraud. Although I certainly get the feel that this program doesn’t really care much about your personal progress and your goals, it’s more or less just after your money.

The Price Of The Program

Currently Body Beast goes with a bit under for the whole program is $39.90 + shipping and handling which is about $9.95.

So the total cost of the program is about $49.90 and that is not actually too bad of a price tag.

Although there are A LOT of up-sells that Beachbody tries to get you to buy all the way from additional Body Beast workouts to Shakeology and your bill goes really fast on top of $100.

What I Like In The Programpositives

  • Decent nutritional advice.
  • Entertaining to watch the DVD’s compared to just working out by yourself.
  • Price relatively low for workout program.
  • Getting into habit of keeping a workout log of performed reps and sets with given weight.

What I Don’t Like In The Programnegatives

  • Misleading marketing.
  • Exercise selection could be better.
  • Ineffective & complicated training methods.
  • Not enough emphasis on lifting intensity.
  • Not enough information on importance of progressive overload.
  • Not enough information on rep speed.
  • Not enough information on injury prevention.
  • Inadequate information on lifting technique.
  • Rep & set scheme not optimal.
  • Weird 3 block system for different workout regimens.
  • 3 months not even close enough for muscle growth.
  • 1 month of the three months is used for dropping body-fat.
  • The “Dynamic Set Training” is made to be THE SECRET discovery that will explode your muscle gains to the next level, while in all reality it’s completely counterproductive.

Conclusion

When it all comes down to it, Body Beast is not the best program you will want to invest if you’re looking to build muscle and you’re serious about changing your body composition.

The program is filled with empty marketing promises and gives you ineffective and misguided training advice how to actually build muscle.

The workout routines are over complicated and distract you from putting in the actual effort that is needed in order to build the most amount of muscle possible.

That being said this program can get you results but it is not the best possible option for you if you’re interested in muscle growth and increase of strength.

But if you’ve already made up your mind and you feel that the Body Beast is the program you want to go for, the best place to purchase it is on Amazon.com

      The point of this review was to give my personal opinion of the product. All reviews done for body beast I’ve read have been praising it.

      I personally do not find body beast the best option since it is clearly over hyped and the training methods are far from optimal.

        obviously you haven’t done the program for the full 90 days if you had you’d know it works and you do build 10-15 pounds of muscle if you don’t YOU are doing something wrong.

          Thanks for the comment Mike. I’ve said it before but I don’t need to try something that I know is bad in order to know if it works or not.

          And about that 10-15 pounds muscle claim, Alan Aragorn in his monthly research review came into conclusion that:

          Beginner lifters can build 1-1.5% total body weight per month
          Intermediate lifters can build 0.5-1% total body weight per month
          Advanced lifters can build 0.25-0.5% total body weight per month

          In practical terms this would mean that a 150-pound complete beginner might be able to gain 1.5-2.5 pound of lean muscle per month for the first year following well structured workout plan (which body beast is not) and correct diet. After the first year this guy would be sitting roughly around 170 pounds and he might be able to gain 0.85-1.7 pounds per month. And after this intermediate year he would be sitting about 180 pounds and might only gain around 0.5-1 pound per month although for an advanced lifter 1 pound per month would be execptional.

          On top of Alan Aragorn conclusion there is another guy called Lyle Mcdonald who came into conclusion that indicated roughly same numbers as Alan Aragorn what you can build at what stage of you training experience.

          So your claim of building 10-15 pounds of lean muscle tissue within 3 months while being in a calorie deficit for the 3rd month is completely ABSURD by all measures.

          On top of this here is a real life example of a guy using steroids logging his 3 months progress of using testosterone enthanate for 500mg per week. Within 3 months he gained just under 20 pounds of actual mass which he thought that about 12 pounds was muscle. This should put a bit more perspective to your claim about body beast. If a steroid user can just get into that 10-15 pound range there is absolutely NO WAY anyone can gain that using body beast since the whole regimen is not good for building muscle and the last month will have you in a calorie deficit.

            I would like to add, sir, that part of their claims of 20 lbs of muscle gained in 3 months may come from creatine – a supplement they recommend to the customer. In my experience, people can gain about 10% of their lean mass more in muscle from creatine, so that adds up to your estimated potential for newbie muscle growth in three months to be about 20 pounds. I think them using the creatine gain as part of their marketing is a little shady.

            Creatine would add a pound or couple to be realistic by increasing the fluid in the muscles, although some individuals are “non-res-ponders” to creatine. Still the 20 pound in 3 months is absolutely ridiculous even though they claimed that some of it is from creatine.

        As an AVID fan of this workout, I still really enjoyed your review of Body Beast. I’ve experienced amazing results–better results in 3 months compared to having an IFBB pro trainer for 5! This workout is absolutely made for beginners, but even experienced lifters can get a good pump from them. My powerlifting husband (ranked #3 in the nation), died on Beast Back day ;). It’s not meant to get the person huge in 3 months, and he explains in the video that it is meant to be used over a period of time. STILL, your review was very knowledgable and respectful. I’ll be coming back to pick your brain for more info regarding other things! Thanks!

          Thanks a lot! As long as the feedback can benefit others it is valuable. Great insight! And yeah powerlifters always manage volume and intensity work with different kind of periodization and as for volume work BB could be used.

          And like I mentioned in the article this is my opinion and I encourage everyone to read other reviews than mine aswell and make up their own mind what program to hop on. Just stick with one ATLEAST a year, bare minimum.

    Hi Jesse, I get the drift of your review. In effect you want me to understand that the Body Beast is only made in Hollywood and not in real earth terms? If Sagi thinks that by swallowing some pills and getting in front of some camera he can convince us to buy his products, thanks to Jesse I am going to keep my bucks for a better muscle building product. Jesse, you saved me 50 bucks we should find a way to split that don’t you think?

      Yeah Sagi definately is entertaining and knows how to present himself.

      The Beach Body company is really successful and I’ve reviewed their other products and they were actually ok. But this one is not good in my opinion.

      There are a lot of great free programs on the internet and if you want to get the best possible program and you’re willing to invest a small sum of money, The Body Transformation Blueprint is the best one I’ve personally come across.

        Although BTB can be done with the same equipment also and at home. Although if you’re serious about building muscle and strength you should have a squat rack, barbell, weights and bench.

        I respect your opinion but I still do think that the body beast is not a good product. I mentioned in the article that hopping into this workout regimen will deliver results for beginners (or actually also people who have had a long layoff from weights) but everything will work when you go from doing nothing to doing something.

        With all the negatives I’ve listed in the review I cannot recommend this program to anyone, but remember that this is just MY OPINION. I’m not the biggest, strongest guy out there, not even close. But I still believe in the “no bullshit” approach when it comes to fitness and I cannot endorse a product that I feel is giving bad and misleading information.

    I have relay enjoyed you straight up review of Body Beast.I was looking for a new training program and was considering this or T25. I am looking to gain muscle and lose weight. I see you mention Body Transformation Blueprint at the end of the article would this produce the goals I am looking for ?
    I have been using Diet Pro Plus from muscleenergy which is working well for me but I would like to gain mass and lose fat quicker.

      If your goal is to build muscle, lose fat or both I’d suggest taking a look into Body Transformation Blueprint. Although cannot say for sure that it is better compared to T25 because I’ve got no experience of it.

    I think its really great that you are being honest and debunking the lies that a lot of supplement companies do with their marketing.

    You also offer great guidelines for people who are looking to change their physique!

    You gave the body transfrormation blueprint as a better alternative compared to body beast. I’m a complete beginner so can I start using it or do I have to have some experience of the gym to be ready to tackle it?

        Yeah I’ve read the feedback from various people trying this program. Some of them were positive, some negative. You’ll have those both represented in this articles comment section. And like I’ve said before I do not have to try something out to figure out if it is bad or good when I have enough experience to see right away what is going on. I will not change my opinion about this program unless they make a second edition of it and it has the cons I mentioned fixed.

    Hi Jesse – Thanks for your Body Beast Workout Review. It does seem like another scam aimed at gullible people. I am no expert on body building by any means.
    I used to play Rugby league when I was younger, so i started a program of weight training to increase strength and fitness and improve my game.
    It took years to make a significant difference,
    Anyone who thinks they can increase body mass in 3 months is” away with the faeries”

      I feel you with the idea of lifting weights in order to improve athletic performance. Usually that mindset carries way further than training just for looks. In my opinion lifting should be a life long journey to keep your body strong and healthy!

      Most of the time people who approach changing their body composition in just 3 months will fail since your body needs time and hard work to build muscle. By getting out of the quickfix mindset you’re far more likely to succeed.

    I am glad you are letting people know about some of the false advertising that goes on. Not just in body building, but everywhere. No, you can’t get a body like the guy on the cover without doing steroids. It’s good to see someone steering young body builders to do what is right and not what will hurt them.

    I’ve heard good things about p90 X so its weird if this is the same parent company seeing a 4/10. But I guess that’s what it is, I would trust you over someone else. I guess it makes sense- the suppliments are what ultimately makes a lot of these people appear healthier. But in the end the videos only half ass it!

    Hello Jesse, your review is impressive because you gave so much information and details about this program. Honestly, I am not in to building of muscles, because I slightly afraid of lifting heavy things. Besides it, I do not like additional supplements, which consist of chemicals. If somebody will talk about this program, I would point to you, because your review looks honest and full of information. What I know, that proteins are important to us. It does not matter how old you are. Without them our cells and neurotransmitters could not communicate. If to much proteins in our diet, we can have joint problems, kidney stones, bad breath. If we do not get real amount, problems with hair, nails, low blood sugar, cravings for meat and so on. People need to be informed.       Eventhough you’re not interested building muscles it would be a great idea to incorporate some kind of resistance training! The health benefits of weight training are something that everyone should take advantage of. It’s totally ok to not care about building muscle but you can stay assured, even when you do lift weights you will not blow up suddenly with big muscles trust me on that πŸ˜€

    So I enjoyed your review. Let me throw this one at you
    I personally follow the Field Strong program by John Welbourne and see TREMENDOUS strength and conditioning gains from it (http://powerathletehq.com/fieldstrong/), but my girlfriend wants to do a home video type workout in our garage gym in the morning. Fully decked out with all the gear needed to get a solid workout in, no matter your goals. She is only willing to do a video program, but doesn’t care what it is. I’m going to tag along and do whatever she does as a show of support in the mornings, but in the evenings, will be hitting big weights and getting strong.

    I’m interested in the bodybeast program because I want more hypertrophy, I already feel I am strong, but I damn sure don’t look it. We’re currently doing P90X3, and with the exception of the pushup/pullup workout video, I feel like we are just dancing around and looking silly.

    **Is body beast a good alternative to get some legit hypertrophy, using a home-video based format?**

    I know there are superior non-video type programs, but until someone puts http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/arnold-schwarzenegger-blueprint-trainer-main.html on a video that says “do this, rest, now do this”, I’m stuck with this “style” of “training”.

      Checked out the Field Strong program and as a former competitive athlete I really like the idea of training for performance and the body will follow. I’ve never been into fitness to just look good to be honest.

      It takes so much time to build muscle without any chemical enhancement so if you’re in it just for the sake of looks, you usually will end up quitting the whole thing!

      When you train with the mindset of being the best version of yourself, you give the training a reason, it’s a tool to improve your whole life not just the way you look.

      But to your question, is body beast a good alternative to get some hypertophy work in, yes. But is it the best, no.

      But as you’re quite limited with the options due to the fact that your wife enjoys working out along with the DVD I don’t have much experience with such workout programs since if you’re serious about training there is no room for watching something and mimicking the program as you really have to push yourself to move the weight with maximum intensity while maintaining proper form.

      Also I’ve read quite a lot of reviews on the amazon (most of them coming from women!) stating that Sagi is really annoying to follow along because he keeps boasting how beastly he is and many people are finding hard to workout along because they feel too put down by the guy “training” you. Although these are just some of the opinions, they might be something to consider.

      But if you’re not too serious about you progress and you want some additional hypertophy work and you absolutely need a follow-along home-video based format, I think body beast would be suitable option for you. I believe you reside in the US so the price tag of 49.90 is not too bad of a deal, only about $25 per person.

    Thanks for sharing your input on Body Beast. My cousin’s been trying to build muscle and get ripped; I am not going to recommend this product to him for sure.

    It’s true that building muscle doesn’t happen in three months like this product advertises; it takes discipline and hard work.

    I think the fact that the creator looks like he takes supplements is a clear indication that Body Best doesn’t work like advertised.

    I have been looking at exercise programs I can do from home (mostly for fat loss and to build some muscle). A friend of mine recommended body beast to me (she is a beach body coach, so I guess she is a bit biased).

    I decided to look at reviews on my own before purchasing. Now I am not so sure if this is the right program for me. You have mentioned a lot of things that I don’t really like.

    My friend did say that P90X and Insanity are also good. I will look at your reviews on these as well.

    Great review! You went into a ton of detail on the product and I believe I learned everything I need to to make an informed decision on the product. I’ve been mostly a cardio guy most of my life so building muscle is something I would like to work on. The program does seem to provide tips for beginners but are there better programs out there for people starting out and wanted to build some muscle? Do you see this program geared more towards experienced lifers?

    Very curious about this. I did p90x one and half times and tried insantiy recently, but my schedule got in the way. I can only imagine what a progam like body beast is like, but you broke it down well. Seems to be inline with their general theme of whipping your ass into shape in record time.     Great review! Thanks for the amount of detail you have provided not only on how the program works but why you wouldn’t recommend it. The average person starting out isn’t able to sort through all the programs out there so your help is greatly appreciated. I primarily do body weight exercises but am always checking out other methods and am always skeptical of the ones that claim to have found the “secret” that no one else has.

    Thanks for your honest review. I have to agree with your assessment of the author of the Body Beast Workout, Sagi Kalev. The moment I saw his picture I thought he was doing a lot more than just working out and eating right. He’s at least taking potent supplements.

    Like you mentioned, it’s just marketing. It’s doubtful someone using the Body Beast workout is going to achieve the results implied in the photo of Sagi Kalev. It seems that every new fitness product that comes out claims to have “cracked the code” or discovered some “secret” or some other nonsense.

    Your #1 Recommendation is really the only way to go if someone want to quickly build natural muscle.

    Nothing irritates me more than intentionally deceptive advertising! I’m glad you were willing to spend the time to give the nitty gritty important info. I especially like what you said about there not being any “magic tricks” to being fit and gaining muscle. That is probably a good way to look for phony programs. Claiming unrealistic results is a bad sign.

    You certainly have a clear understanding on the topic. I mean, muscle-building in 3 months? Claims like these irk me, as muscle building is cumulative and requires consistency, as you have stated.

    Even though it’s relatively cheap, it seems they are after the money, not the betterment of their customers. If they cared for the latter, they would be more thorough with their research regarding the proper way to build muscle, progressively.

    I think I’ll be sticking to Insanity. πŸ˜›

    Hi Jesse!
    You did a great job in explaining to your readers why the particular program that you reviewed is overall rather mediocre. One of the other programs that you mentioned in your review – even containing a link back to a past review the P90X workout program I remember was all the rage a few years ago with ESPN personnel. I watch Mike & Mike in the morning and the skinny dude Mike Greenberg claimed that the P90X program put him into the best shape of his life. Understand that Greenberg, jokingly referred to as “Mr. junior high school, junior varsity tennis player” on more than one occasion appears to have two left feet when it comes to sports activities.

    In the review of the program in the article, I love how you initially questioned just how “legit” the program’s owner Sagi Kalev is as a body builder. That guy, as you noted and in the photo sure looked as if he had a bit of “enhancements” with the steroids and other illegal stuff to have such dense muscle mass on his body.

    You then did a good job letting readers know that most of the exercises used in the program really do not focus on what it would be necessary to have a fit body. You also stated that the entire program was just too complicated.

    I’m not into body building but in a sport which involves cycling. However if I was and based on your excellent review I would stay clear of the program “Body Beast Workout” that you thought was partially a scam in what overall it had to offer!

Though I only started working out, I know that there is no “ideal” workouts to build muscles. Like you said, the only way is through hard work and persistence.

      Yes the nutritional guidelines outlined in the program are solid and tailored to your individual needs.

    The way you’ve broken down each aspect of the training program and covered it in minute detail but managed to keep it simple at the same time is really amazing.

      All of the reviews I saw done for BodyBeast were done by Beachbody coaches so they were quite biased.

      I’ve done reviews on insanity and p90x and both are from the same company as BodyBeast but those programs were decent in my opnion, this one is not.

I’m a huge fan of Insanity as it is the first program I did that actually worked in terms of burning fat and shaping my body, so if I saw a Beach Body program that said I can have major muscle in 3 months I would probably buy it eyes closed, no questions asked, and then become disappointed and discouraged. We need more honest and no BS reviews like this!

    Thank you for your review of the Body Beast. I agree with you about Sagi Kalev’s tactics for putting a good-looking guy or gal on a cover of an advertisement and make them look really beefy by putting oils and make-up on their body to give the readers the false impression that they can have the identical looking body. I too dislike that form of dishonesty.

    And you are right – muscle takes time to build. It takes years as you said and not just a couple months. As you said, beginners should train with basic methods with linear progression.

    The other downside is all the equipment you will have to purchase which is not cheap to include Dumbbells, Barbell, EZ Curl Bar, Weights, and Adjustable Bench. All those combined could easily add up to a two grand or more.

      You’re right on the equipment. Although there are some cheaper options if you want to build a decent home gym!

      It becomes a question of would you spend around $500-2000 upfront to get a decent squat rack, bench, barbell and weights and use it for the next 10 years or invest in a $10-30 buck per month memebership at a commercial gym.

    I think this is a fair review. The issue I have with it however, is most people that are interested in buying a work DVD program are beginners. For someone like myself who has very little experience lifting seriously it’s a valuable resource. 50$ is more than fair. Yes I agree your not going to look like a body builder but for someone like myself who started at 20% BF it is a GREAT Program to start with. I’ve been going to the gym for years, running on the treadmill, bench press , curls etc.. Then I’m out. Now I at least feel like I good starting point and don’t look like a complete idiot in the gym. For 50$ I think the program is more than fair priced and after 8 weeks in the program I look and feel stronger than I ever have. Also, I was in the Army for 8 years. So something about this program must be working.

    This body beast product sounds like a pretty solid workout option but there are a few lingering questions I’d like to ask first. First of all – what is the equipment list like for this sort of thing – what do you need to get started up? Secondly how long are the workouts and are they suitable for newbies to the subject?

      At the very least you’ll need dumbbells, bench and a pull-up bar. The workout duration in the program varies quite a bit and it depends on which part of the 3 phases you’re in and also what body part you’re working on a given day. But all the workouts are something between 22-50 minutes. Yes body beast is suitable for beginners.

    Hi Saco. Great review. I have been surfing around trying to find something my hubby would be interested in. The price is ok on this, but then I read through all the cons you gave. We don’t need anything complicated and like you said one month is focusing on dropping body fat. My hubby doesn’t have any fat, he just would like to get fitter and build some nice muscle.

      Jerry as I mentioned in the article, 3 months is virtually nothing when we’re talking about building muscle. Some beginners can get away with this staying in surplus 2 months and then changing to deficit on the last remaining month and actually build muscle during the last month. Building muscle takes years and 3 months will simply not cut it if you want to get serious results.

    Hi Jesse,
    Last year I was looking for a straightforward weight lifting workout that I could do at home. I chose Body Beast and completed the course around last year.
    I will say that I enjoyed Body Beast. For a beginner like me it was good to have an explanation of the exercises and watch someone do them with you. I found the instructions to be clear and the routine challenging. As my motivation can vary wildly with working out I found it helpful to just pick up a dvd and stick it on play.
    For someone like you who has worked out for a long time this wouldn’t be an option. But for someone like me who is looking to begin lifting this proved to be a good start.

    Hi there! Great post from you. I think this kind of “sport” is pure science. If you do and eat even a bit wrong way, you probably not gonna achieve the results you hope. I think that this program would help those who does not have money/time to hire a personal trainer for themselves etc.

      It’s true that The BeachBody Co. has a huge market domination. But that being said this product didn’t leave up to the hype in my opinion.

      Nutrition is one of the three main aspects of muscle growth. But right training methods are essentially the key. And the information of it in this product is good but not anywhere near worth of $50.

    This is a very honest review of the Body Beast Workout.

    It’s amazing how everyone continually tries to sell the “fast results” pitch, whether it be muscle building and getting ripped, making money, losing weight, mastering internet marketing and getting tons of traffic in a matter of days. It all sounds great in theory (like you say, in order to get your money) but it’s far from reality. These shysters also always have some secret method of doing things that no one else knows about.

    Very detailed review. The program’s probably not too bad, but as you say, the results they quote you’ll get in 90 days is fantasy.

      The classic fitness industrys false promises that you can achieve something with this program that is honestly way out from your reach.

      On top of that they claim that they’ve discovered “THE BEST KEPT SECRET” by this basic training tool called pyramid sets which has been around since the early days of bodybuilding. It’s just one advanced tool in your arsenal and if you’re not an advanced lifter it just distracts you from the stuff that really produces results.

      And the ineffective training frequency and exercise utilization using “bro splits”.

      There was just so much marketing gimmicks and ineffective training advice in here that I do not recommend this to anyone IF you’re serious about building muscle and strength.

      The problem you’re experiencing at the moment might depend on several different aspects and I’d have to know way more about your current routine and lifestyle to pinpoint the lacking part.

      But I think the first thing you should focus on is actually figure out how much calories you’re actually consuming on a daily basis and ensure that you’ll stay in a 200-500 calorie surplus every day. Many guys and gals just think that they’re are eating enough but when the food is weighed and calories calculated they actually see that they’re not eating enough. There cannot be guess work here.

      Another thing is the fact that how is your training? Are you training with progressive overload and correct intensity using compound exercises?

      If you’ll want to leave all the guess work out and get to know EVERYTHING you’ll ever need to know check out the #1 recommendation I provided in the article. It’s the best complete system available online.

    I have completed two Beachbody programs, P90X and Insanity, and for what its worth, they are good programs because of the convenience and easy to complete at home (not physically obviously). I agree that a serious body building program doesn’t really translate to the 6 days a week, fast paced, home workout, ideology similar to P90X or Insanity. Muscle gains take a long time and although individuals will see results with BB, there isn’t much better than a squat rack, bench press, barbells, and dumbells in a gym setting that allows increases in weight amounts. Its always been said that nothing increases size more than Squats, Deads, Bench, Rows, and Militaries. After 30 years of lifting, playing college athletics, and teaching athletics, I have found this to be quite true with only a few additions like cleans and other modified exercises. As far a nutrition, Beachbody has always been about selling their products and frankly research hasn’t consistently supported the high use of supplements. On P90X for example, an increase in calories is necessary if you want to be able to just make it through the day!! Its exhausting and your body lets you know you need more. Any program that requires 6 days a week workouts will put the individual in a physical place where they need more calories but not necessarily supplements sold by Beachbody.

    I mean you can find tons on you tube alone. It can be very confusing to a beginner. I appreciated your honesty in your review and you gave very valid points as to the cons. I am always leery when I see huge promises like a ripped body in 3 months. Rome wasn’t built in a day people!

      This is just my opinion of the product and some folks have found success with body beast. But like I mentioned anything will work to a some degree even the subpar methods if you go to doing nothing into doing something.

    Jesse, this is the best, most thorough review of Body Beast I’ve seen. Great analysis and advice for those considering on purchasing it.

    My workouts are not body building geared since I go more for more weights-cardio sessions to help my soccer game but you look like you could bench my car with me inside it so you’re doing something right.

    I’m okay with being the lean guy in the gyum that everyone thinks couldn’t lift anything until they see me punch well above my weight (bench 245 reps, I’m 165lbs).

    You’re right on the money – you must put in the hard work over many years to get that density and strength. Nobody is going to look like a super hero in 3 months if they are a beginner and this is why i like your critique of their deceptive marketing practices.

    Too many guys buy it in hope then when they fail, tell themselves they’re not good enough and quit altogether.

    I’m glad to read an honest review on Body Beast. I hope others find your website before they spend money on this program.

    I have told others that ask me about anything on TV to think of it this way, other then the advertisement how many people do you know that this program made a difference.

    Unfortunately all the TV products are worthless in my opinion. I say go to a garage sell and buy a set of weights, dumbbells, and bench for about 100 dollars and you will get more results from actually exercising with basics. The other option spend the money and get a gym membership and get a coach at your local gym.

    Great review and hopefully others will see it as well.

    yeah man, I was watching this on tv and just had to laugh… these guys and women are using gear… totally misleading to show those bodies as being a result of 90 days of exercise and diet… people these days have no shame… I take pride in being natty and certainly there are genetic anomalies out there, but these folks are 100% fraudulent, I guarantee it…. Jesse is spot on about the product in his review, I don’t have to try it to say so because I train way harder than that, and I’ve been doing it in terms of YEARS, not just 3 months… Jesse is a nice guy for not raking these predators over the coals….

      I think one of the major points is the fact that people nowadays want everything to happen FAST and right now, while the fact is that building something be it your body or business TAKES A LOT OF TIME. There are no 2-3 month quick fixes.

      The #1 thing with changing your body composition is to find something sustainable, something that you can stick for the rest of your life. Learn to love and embrace the grind and lift heavy and strive for progressive overload. After that everything else will fall into place.

    I’m 51yrs old , 145lbs been working out with weights for a year, I have a Powertec machine with over 1500 lbs of Olympic weights. I don’t drink protein or eat the correct diet but I’m strong for my age I can bench 380lbs on my Powertec multi machine. I work out with kungfu, judo and run the treadmill and All these quick fix is for lazy people.

    Should I start taking protein powder? Should I run treadmill first then weights? or weights first then treadmill?

      Protein powder can be used purely out of convenience. It’s absolutely not necessary for muscle growth or recovery. Protein powder is just protein, nothing more nothing less. If you’re getting enough protein from your regular foods, there is no need for supplementing with protein powder. And even if you don’t get enough protein from your diet, you should fix your diet not add in protein powder.

      That being said it’s completely up to you if you want to use it or not. You’re not getting anything special from the powder.

      About treadmill and weights, it depends what you’re going after. If you’re after maximum strength and muscle gains your heavy weight training should always come first in your priority list, so don’t do any heavy cardio before you’re going to attack the weights.

    Jesse, thanks for all your comments and advice, you seem to know what you’re talking about and its helpful because I dont know much about weight lifting. I already bought the course before I saw your comments so I’m gonna start it tomorrow since I already have it and after the 90 days I’ll give you my honest results. One problem I have is that it seems most programs focus on losing weight where as my desire is to gain. I’m 6 feet tall and weight 160 pounds. I’ve rarely exercised but I’ve worked very physical jobs my whole life and because of that I have very little body fat, great cuts including what my friend called a christmas tree on my back and I have a lot more strength then one would expect by looking at me. THis will be the first time I’ve been seriously committed to following a program through. My goal is to gain 15 to 20 pounds of muscle mass, (I’m pretty much satisfied with my cut but I would like a little more) Do you have any advice on diets or supplements to help me gain my desired mass? I have an extremely fast metabolism and was on a 4,000 calorie a day diet for a month and didnt notice much weight gain. Thanks, Will

      Thanks for the input Will!

      The goal of building 15-20 lbs of lean muscle mass will take you probably 1-3 years depending on MANY different variables. So please do not expect anything too drastic happen in 3 months. I usually recommend sticking a minimum of 1 year of any fitness regimen.

      About the supplements, you don’t really need any supplements as long as your diet is on point but the ones you might find useful are basic Whey Protein and Creatine Monohydrate in micronized form.

      And about the calorie intake. As you mentioned you work in a highly active and strength demanding labor, you mentioned that you “didn’t notice much weight gain” but if the weight gain was like 0.5-2 pound per month, it’s actually quite a good number to aim for!

      Figure out the calorie intake you need to gain that 0.5-2 pounds per month and for folks that have fast metoblism like you I always suggest to take in liquid calories since they’re easy to eat and you can pack A LOT calories in into drinking form. If you don’t have a blender you should definately invest in one. Make shakes with peanut butter, banana (or some different fruits) and some milk & vegetables, these will come really handy to add significant amount of calories to your diet without having to stuff your belly up so much that it hurts.

    Jesse – excellent review of the Body Beast product!! I have been working out hard for 6 years, and only after 1 year did I start seeing some results. After 4-5 years my body looks like some of those “after” photos that they tout on the Body Beast program, LOL. I have genetics for great muscle growth as well, so I bulked up faster than my friends.

    Beach Body is definitely taking advantage of the gullible by selling a dream, claiming to build muscle in 90 days. In some cases they take a fairly muscular person who has body fat hiding the muscle, and once they slim down after 90 days then they look more jacked. Definitely misleading and wrong.

The before and after photos are really easy to trick and people that do not know much about building muscle cannot see the fact that many of the before pictures the guy or girl has already a decent amount of muscle mass under the layer of fat and the photo is taken in poor lighting and without photoshop. Then they will go on a cut that takes months and months and take after photos with pump on, great lighting and to top it off with photoshop. These things are very hard for beginners to catch but people like you and me who know the game will see them miles away.

    Just like some ppl leaving comments, I also watched the informercial and was some what intrigued but knew it’s impossible to get those results in only 3 months. I’m 31 years old, Ive been working out off and on for about 12 yrs. bulking up and cutting down as the years gone by. But I have NEVER got the real results I’ve always wanted. The results you see only in magazines from fitness models or Hollywood actors. Who Have the TIME and don’t have a 9-5 job like I do. Im not using it as a cop out but let’s get real sometimes life’s gets in the way

    I’m what you call a hardganier, I’ve always struggled to get those mass gains. It might be do cuz I’m not as consistent as I should be. I go 3-6 months of being consistent and some times 3-8 months of being consistency BUT when I’m not seeing the results I want I lose interest and stop working out. I lose that drive to Keep going.I know many men can relate to me. I’ve tried all types of workouts and and different meal plans. Some worked and others didn’t but again I never gotten the real results I’ve always wished for. I’ve done my research and come to the conclusion that I’m “skinny fat”I’ve done the body test on a few websites and it seems that I’m in between a ectomorph/mesomoroh. How much is this true? And would the #1 workout you recommend finally work for my body type so that I can achieve that results I’ve been hoping for

      I’ll try to give you my input to answer your questions here, hope you’ll find them even somewhat valuable πŸ™‚

      So the first thing is that you have never gotten the results that fitness models in magazines have is the reason that 99.9% of the time they have outstanding genetics with their full muscle bellies and muscle insertions AND they’re on steroids. The hollywood actors are more or less the same depending who we’re looking at.

      So comparing yourself to these highly genetically gifted and steroid using people is not something you should do but I totally get it, that is how marketing works in the fitness industry. Selling unrealistic expectation as a realistic goal to gullible people.

      About the time factor, you’re completely right there BUT you don’t really need to spend a lot of time in the gym to make great results, if you focus on getting stronger by a very minimalistic way, you can make awesome progress with just 30-60 minutes a day 2-3 times per week!

      And the next point is very important for you. I know it’s been proven that a minor percentage of population are so called “non-responders” to muscle growth and they find it almost impossible to pack on muscle mass BUT the health benefits that weight training provides they can still take the full benefit.

      Another point is that your consistency is definately an issue. 3-6 months training and then 3-6 months off is not something that you’ll make progress on. I usually tell people to stick with ATLEAST, BARE MINIMUM of 1 year with a given regimen. It’s ok to take week or two off sometimes but you absolutely need to stay consistent and focus on the big picture and keep grinding week after week, month after month, year after year, to make noticable progress. Building muscle is a slow process.

      Also do you train with weights with the sole purpose of aiming for progressive overload, meaning getting stronger over time, using heavy basic compound lifts? How intense you train? Is your diet sufficient? Are you eating enough calories to build muscle? Enough protein?

      These are something for you to take into consideration πŸ™‚

      About will my #1 recommendation work? Impossible to say. If you are a true hardgainer that cannot build muscle (really small percentage of the population) then no. But you will still reap the health benefits of weight lifting! If you just have been working out without a good understanding of how to build muscle my #1 recommendation will work for you.

    Hey Jesse, I loved your review. With that being said I did this program for 3 months and in 3 months I went from size 36 to 30 and lost 35 pounds. Now in my belief and what I was taught, 65% of losing weight is the diet. The diet and workout they have you doing does work (if you’re trying to lose weight). I honestly been in great shape before but I figured with a 90 day non satisfaction money back return. You’re only spending 10 dollars if it doesn’t work. Even though that is 3 months wasted if it doesn’t work. But I do believe the diet plan they have is what worked best for me. I’m happy with the results but do agree with your review, unnecessary marketing for there products but that’s just so they can make money. Not to get huge or bulk up, but I got shredded from it. And I can’t complain about the program

      Many people have gotten angry and attacked me for this review saying that I’m bashing the program, when in truth I state that this is just my opinion and I don’t label this program as a scam and state that it can get you some results.

      For muscle building purposes (like it is mostly marketed) it is not good at all in my opinion. There are WAY better programs with the same price tag with much more in-depth information on how to build muscle without the misleading marketing. The quality of information is just on another level.

      I encourage people to read my review, read other peoples reviews, read testimonials etc. and make your own conclusions after that. Don’t just listen to what I have to say.

      With every single thing in life we have people with and against so it’s really important to research by yourself and figure it out yourself is something is good or not.

    I just want to say that after working out for 3 years passively, meaning I would work out for 1 year but not follow a good nutrition, then year 2 do a lot of boot camps and some weights, year 3 running 3 times a week, to this year starting off with Body Beast, I have been VERY impressed. I am still struggling with the hardest part which is nutrition ( I eat good about 70% of the time, still drink alcohol on the weekends, and own a soul food restaurant ).

    Doing 1 day of cardio and about 3 to 4 of the weights a week (it’s hard to do 6 days), I have gained 8 lbs of muscle and loss 6 lbs of fat (took 3 hydro static weighing to calculate) in 12 weeks. No lie, hands down a great workout. It’s easy to push myself doing this workout because i’m watching other workout with me on the video. Now, do I do this at home? No..I probably wouldn’t. I put the videos on my smart phone and workout with them in the gym. I just wanted to give a different unbiased opinion and felt others needed another view point.       Oh BTW I’m a guy who gains weight very easily. I have accepted the fact that I will have to workout for the rest of my life in order to be in decent shape. So i’m 5’11 and i’m 217 lbs and am 33 years old. Struggled with weight during my 20’s, work a full time job 7am – 5pm, have a restaurant, so i’m pretty busy. But I will agree in that this program would be very hard for beginners. I’m in my 4th year and it’s providing a good challenge for me.

    I’ve tried p90x, Insanity and Body Beast. I like doing them to try new workouts out and mix up the routine. However, I agree that they are not always the best workouts you could do. I found that these programs built muscle in places I didn’t want it. Insanity made my legs huge which I did not want. What is the best alternative to Body Beast?

    I saw this in a infomercial while I was in the US, it was a very well put together advertisement
    I ws on the point of buying it when I returned to the UK, then I saw you had done a review of the program
    Your review was very good, it didn’t say it was the worst out there, you were even complimetry about parts of it
    I used to work out from home but its hard to get motivated on your own
    after reading your review I am having second thoughts about buying it now
    Do you have any program you could recommend for an old bloke (65+) ?
    I like to think I am fit, but others might have different ideas
    I go to the gym, 3-4 times a week, but its mainly cardio I concentrate on
    I like to think I eat healthy, but I still have a bit of a belly, I don’t think its the kind of food, just the amount (what is a portion ?)
    I eat plenty of chicken, red meat (Steaks) pork, all grilled, never fried
    Anyway, thanks for the review, you saved me a few quid by reading your review

    Wow, I can’t believe the comments for this post are still going! Just wanted to chime in and share with you my experience with Body Beast. I started off doing the body beast program for the 90 day period. After that time, I did notice a difference. Most of my family members did too. However, I had to stop working out for a while, and when I came back, I started up on body beast again. This time around, no change. I’ve been using that program for 2-3 years, and not seen and change. I’ve just recently gotten back into weight lifting, and this time around I’m using Bigger Leaner Stronger by Micheal Matthews. He supports the idea of using compound movements at 70-80% as well, and bases a lot of his exercises on Mark Rippetoe’s Starting Strength. I’ve already noticed the difference in my progress following this program. So yeah, i totally agree with you: the gains most people who use Body Beast are definitely from being novices lifters being exposed to weight lifting for the first time. I would like to add that even though Body Beast is no longer effective in any way for me, I did find Sagi hilarious, and I love his comments. I’ve adopted some of them myself! I’ll miss those. Good entertainment, not so effective program.

    BB is simply the best exercise program I have ever used. Need to get this in as I have read through most of this and I want people to understand that the program DOES work. Have been an athlete my entire life and have done countless workout routines. I don’t use nor have ever used supplements. My guess is Jesse is selling another product which is perfectly fine BUT BB works. On my third go around and I only wish I could let others feel how I feel. The results speak for themselves. Talk to others who HAVE done the program. Dig deep into the forums or look at people on Facebook who have done the program. No need for supplements just follow the workouts closely and do what Sagi tells you to do. For those of you advancing in age and think you can’t do it you WILL be able to do this. For those of you with knees like mine don’t worry there is no or very little bouncing you will not kill your knees like you will in some of the other programs. For those of you with past knee injuries you know what I’m talking about. More of the type of person that just does things and makes it happen so this probably will not come off well but trust me get the program and do it you will not regret it.

    Make sure to get Tempo the second time around. Have fun great program and you will feel like a king.

    I really like the full in depth review that you did on the Body Beast Program. I see that you gave it a low score.

    I have done the P90X3 program and it is pretty good program. Right know I switched to weight training in the gym.

    Do you think going to the gym will get you faster and better results than doing beachbody programs?

      Going to the gym and lifting weights with a solid regimen is THE BEST thing you can do to build muscle and burn fat. Strength training is #1 and everything else comes after that and it is the most powerful tool to alter your body composition. Nothing comes close.

      Basically these beach body programs charge you over $100 to tell you to go do jumping jacks and do some barbell curls and chin ups with yoga and other stuff. You can save your $100 and just look cardio workouts from youtube.com and adjust your calories and you get the same effect, in my opinion they are not something one should invest in, but that is just my opinion.

    Hey Jesse,

    I was concerned that they recommend using a gym ball/yoga ball if you do not have a bench. This is a major safety issue. I wrote the company, and complained with no reply. If you are just starting out lifting weights and do not know where to look to find a list of what work outs/routine to do then I would recommend this program instead searching web sites for routines.

    You are right, this beast program is misleading and doesn’t make a lot of sense. A 2 month bulk followed by a 1 month cut is ridiculous. People should be aware that building muscle is s long term plan, not a short gimmick.

    really well put together review. Seems like you put a lot of time and effort into it. I really think your right by saying a lot of beginners will opt in to buy this product. They defiantly will see result without even doing the advanced techniques in the program. Absolutely right about linear progression. But end of the day this product has a very smart marketing plan and sells to beginners. However do you think there are better alternatives out there?

    I’ve done P90x and Body Beast with great results from both. I do P90 then BB and alternate back and forth. I have had amazing results using both. I built muscle and cut up by alternating between the two programs. I value your opinion Jesse, and everyone is entitled to their own, and in my 2 cents I enjoyed both programs. I was fortunate to get BB when it was on sale for $19.99 so I didn’t pay a whole lot for the program. I will state the with both programs I did not follow their nutrition plan, but followed my own diet plan. I will agree with you that doing one round of BB or P90x will NOT get you jacked like the people you see on the infomercials or in the videos, however, if you are overweight and out of shape like I was when I started you will lose a significant amount of weight and gain muscle definition (at least I did). I also think a lot depends on how far you push yourself as well, which can be hard when you workout solo. I always push myself to exhaustion during every workout and give 100%, maybe that’s why I get great results. For the record I do not take any supplements or any shakeology, just good ol fashion healthy eating from my local grocery store and farmer’s market. Getting back to BB I don’t regret purchasing it and I do like to add it to my workout regimen, but that is just my opinion.

Sometimes we need the external voice to snap us out of the spell (that the infomercial had cast). Muscle building and fitness are marathons, not sprints. Marketing does what it does to sell the program, to the point of causing loss-of-credibility.

    Hey Jesse, Im glad I read this review. Although I have purchased this program and am about 8 weeks in, prior to this program I had been muscle building for about 10 months and had gained about 35 lbs. Obvious muscle growth is established but I was starting to question the basic “Bulk” routine and its goals where all conventional methods say less reps, max weight where BB does more of a lean build. I totally agree that the program over sells itself but I purchased it to have a routine to follow now that I want to cut and lean the muscle down. I will not be finishing this program as I feel that the muscle growth has stopped and I want to see the difference in my body after the cut. I will start doing Max30 or even Insanity to cut weight and most likely adopt the routine as a maintenance program.

    It appears on the infomercial this program might be a good option if you are trying to tonevup, boost stamina, get ripped a bit. But I could also easily define the women models\contestants as unhealthily skinny, or over muscled. Over the long term one needs to define if a particular program is sustainable for them and their bodies overall. Bodybuilders have other considerations. I heard this company had defective mailings and disks also. I decided also by comparing the total…total cost of installments\cost and the originality of the training program.

    I bought this program. I already had most of the equipment and I wasn’t conned into buying their line of overpriced supplements. Because I have a liver condition I have to have most stuff I ingest approved by a medial professional anyways. I was sold because of the steroid monster who’s thick accent makes it difficult to listen to but looks really good. What gets me is their marketing blunder. If you’re going to sell a product to the average Joe but fail to represent that average Joe in the workout video how is the average Joe supposed to believe it will work? All the models are already built – they don’t even need this program. Now if they had a skinny guy or a fat guy doing the work – that would have been a bit more believable. And what about all those “successful” transformations? How many of those guys were ex-athletes, ex-bodybuilders – some of the photos are ridiculous. Hell, I want to look like some of the “before” photos after I finish lifting. Personally I’m going to pull this program a part and use what is beneficial with a solid routine and take my time. In my past I lifted in the gym and you are absolutely correct in your article (thank you by the way) it took me nearly 3 years to pack on muscle with nutrition, weights and various lifting programs. 90 days is the right amount of time to develop a solid habit and hardly enough time to jump on stage for Mr. Olympia.

    Very informative. Thanks for the effort. I am sure you have good reason, but you never evaluated the lean beast aspect of the program. What do you think of that part? I am considering getting it to boost my weight loss. Cardio just isn’t taking me any further or fast enough, and I am looking for something else. The muscles are also a great bonus πŸ™‚

    I’ve done the Body Beast program several times and i’ve been left disappointed and depressed. I follow the meal plan, never miss a workout and the gains have been minimal. This review has been great to read and will help me regroup and refocus. As info, i’m an Ectomorph body type. Something not discussed or considered in Body Beast as well. Another hole in the program.

      That is exactly the problem with this misleading marketing. They promote sub-par training methods that will not yield the results you’re after and sell you the idea with their “supplement” using guys that you can achieve the same in 3 months.

      Like I’ve been always praising, your #1 priority should be getting stronger with compound exercises and you will build muscle. Muscle is a side product of increased performance (you getting stronger), there are no gimmicks and other BS involved with that, you simply cannot go wrong there.

    I saw the BB and was a little skeptical. Can you lead me in the right direction for a fun, fat burning regimen, workout that would work for a female in her mid 40’s looking to loose some weight and try fitting in that bikini one more year? lol I know it’s a life changing issue with food intake, how to eat, when to eat, but I want a workout that is true and not just a money maker. I’m pretty active now, but want something more. Any suggestions?

    MAN! I wish I would have stumbled across this before I purchased it. I have been an avid Beachbody fan since I lost a lot of weight with them back in 2014-15 with a full healthy lifestyle change (no soda, daily exercise, healthy eating, etc.) I have used T25, Cize and the other aerobic-type programs with much success. I was hoping that this wouldn’t be a “miracle muscle program” but that it would get me in the mode of using weights and incorporating it in my health regimen…*sigh* Oh well, $40 bucks wasted…..

    I was looking at Body Beast as a potential home DVD workout routine to follow as I have limited equipment (dumbbells, incline/decline flat bench, barbell/bench, pull up bar and a curl bar).
    I saw your “not too enthusiastic” review of this program.
    Would you please suggest a few other possible options for a beginner to grow muscle from and learn from that are currently out there for sale that will show the basic exercise lifts and how and when to do them?
    Thanks! I’m looking forward to starting off 2017 right and making this MY year to get stronger and leaner.

    I am starting my 3rd week of body beast today. I can already tell a difference in how my clothes feel, my tone and my strength. I follow my own meal plan. I don’t regret the purchase one bit. When I complete my 90 days I plan to restart with increased weights and adding cardio.
